The Riftwalker Chronicles is an upcoming urban fantasy novel. Imagine a world where creativity, inspiration, and ingenuity no longer exist. Imagine a world where there are no more movies, no more music, and no more books. This is the fate that threatens the world of college student William Dane. In order to stop it, he must find a way to bridge the gap between the magical world of Patria Immortal and the world of reality. Without that bridge, everything that inspires humanity ceases to exist.

William must find a way, but will it be too great a cost for one college-aged kid to pay?
Hearth-Tales is a series of short fan fictions written for my Shield Dwarf paladin in my local Dungeons & Dragons: Forgotten Realms campaign.

Ruria Hammerfall grew up in the shadows of Citadel Adbar, following in the footsteps of her father. However, when fate takes hold and she finds herself swept away down the Black Road and across the face of the world to the city of Luskan. It is here she finds her calling. It is here her story truly begins.

For it is here that legends are made.

  1. Dreamcasting: Putting Life to Words

I’m something of an odd duck sometimes.  I like to “cast” actors for the characters of my novel, as if I were looking to put them in a movie.  I find it helps me better visualize the scene and create the world my characters live in.  It helps me see them with better clarity than just leaving them as somewhat amorphous figures in my imagination. So, without further ado, here is the cast of my current novel, The Journey of Excalibur – Book One: A Blacksmith’s Devotion.

The Journey of Excalibur is my first full-length novel project.  It is currently in its Second Draft phase after having my first conference call with editor John Adamus.  From that, it shifted from being a single-book project to a potential seven-book serial.  Stay tuned!  There’s more to come.

It’s Fourth of July weekend.  In Texas, that’s usually an excuse to fire up the grill, break out some manner of booze, and play with potentially hazardous explosives.  However, here in my part of Texas (and in most parts from what I’m hearing) we’re under a ban from using any kind of firework due to the drought and general dryness of the environs here.  So, in lieu of blowing stuff up while intoxicated (not that I’d ever do that, seriously…) I’m home in my air conditioned office reveling in word play and plot bunnies. “But wait…” you might say.  “Nanowrimo...

“Where are you going?” “I gotta get to class, I told you.”  Will said around a piece of toast that dangled from his teeth.  He pulled on one of his sneakers, not bothering with the laces.  “If I don’t show up for class, I’m going to need to pull something really fantastic out of my ass for my final.” Alejandro sighed.  “What about your training?  You need to—“ “—focus, yeah, I know!  And I swear we’ll get right back to it this afternoon, all right?  I can’t afford to mess up four years of college now.  My parents at least...

So was it he who had violated this ominous inscription?  Or had it been Starflame?  For all that it had been the Elf-King’s suggestion, Zhaeryn himself had agreed.  He looked into the sky, expecting a thunderbolt to lance down and strike him dead for his disobedience of an ages old edict.  After a long moment, he received no sign that the Fates intended to end his wretched existence for violating the sanctity of this glade.  Perhaps they saw the true intent of his heart; of a Chieftain who only wanted to provide a future for his people.  Perhaps it was...

“These are the other Riftwalkers.  Every major continent has one.”  He looked to the others, “This is William Robert Dane.  He will be replacing me as the Riftwalker of the Americas.” “Kijutsu Hisoka,” said the little old Japanese lady, “Riftwalker Asia.” The burly man tipped his hat. “Broderick Evans, Riftwalker Europe.” The young kid tilted his own hat back on his head, “G’day mate.  I’m Aaron Taylor, Riftwalker Australia.” “Jorunna Haraldsson,” the tall woman said, “Riftwalker Antarctica.” “Uh, hi.” Will said with a lame little hand wave. The Australian eyed him for a moment.  “Ain’t much to look at, is...
